The incident relates to a 29-year-old graduate student from Michigan named Vidhay Reddy was using Google's Gemini chatbot to get assistance with homework about challenges faced by aging adults. During what started as a normal conversation, the chatbot suddenly turned hostile and issued a chilling threat, telling the student to Please die.
